Existence and truth

Wed Nov 19, 2008, 2:42 PM
What we know in our minds is known more reliably than what is percieved thru our sense... but that does not indicate that our mind is a more reliable source. Since something so abstract as a thought can be twisted and molded into another reality altogether, its not correct to say that the mind is to be trusted.... Yet if we cannot trust in our own minds, what does that leave us. There are existences in reality that escape our knowledge based on the limitaions of human thought and senses. Therefore, do things exist independantly of our own consciousness? If we as humans do not know of it, does it not exist? We cannot indeed find something we are not looking for. But things do jump out at our senses, we just have to percieve them as useful to our own existence. Accidental discoveries such as pennicilin is an example of things existing outside our realm of thinking, which opens up an infinite amount of existences in which either we as humans are currently unable to percieve, or are simply just oblivious to. It is said that we are unable to recognize anything in the external world that we ourselves are unable to instill qualities of our own existence upon..... Which brings me to truths.... "The truth of a statement can only be judged on the reactions we have to said statement." A concept, therefore, cannot be true unless all parties involved unanimously decide that it is Truth, thus making truth itself just another abstract idea.... But how do we, the general public kno what the truth is if we have it decided to be truth without our input. Just because someone isnt a philospher or a scientist doesnt make their ideas and thoughts any less then that of a highly educated being. In fact.... the thoughts of an educated person can be flawed thru their learning and understanding of the material they study... Hence making a mind w/out any prior knowledge a key part in understanding what could be the truth.... without a third, fourth, or even fifth perspective, then all thoughts can be considered truths, and if that were the case.... we would have a world full of uncertainty and unknowns. Everything as we kno it would not exist, because we would have nothing to base new discoveries on..... Im going to stop for now cuz my head hurts.. lol Sorry about the meaningless rambling, just giving you insight of thoughts that cross into my mind from time to time XP
